Using the Sawmill in V Rising is a bit of a mystery to first-time players. V Rising’s approach to crafting and refining resources differs significantly from most other survival and crafting games you’ve played. Making new items is largely automated, with specialized resource-refining buildings doing the bulk of the work for you by breaking down and repurposing the items you give them.
Among these structures, the Sawmill is the most common, which can be used to turn raw Lumber into finely crafted Planks of wood. You’ve come to the right place if you’re unsure how to proceed. How to Use the Sawmill in V Rising?
To use a Sawmill, you must first ensure that your Castle Heart is connected to it. To do this, interact with the Castle Heart and add Blood Essence to it. The Sawmill, as well as any other automated structures you’ve placed in your castle, will be powered by this. In order to use these buildings, you must have Blood Essence. Without it, your Castle Heart will decay.
If the Sawmill is powered, all you have to do now is interact with it and then place some lumber into one of the “Input” grid tiles for it to begin turning the lumber into refined wooden planks automatically.
As soon as you interact with a Sawmill, or any other resource-refining building, you’ll see the “Input” and “Output” grids at the bottom of the window. Recipes are split in half, with input to the “Input” grid on the left and recipe output on the right side of each arrow when the building has finished working. Each recipe is divided into two sections.
As you can see, the first recipe for the Sawmill calls for a minimum of 20 Lumber to be placed in the “Input” grid. When you add 20 Lumber, the Sawmill will break it down and produce a Plank and a Sawdust for you, which you can collect from the “Output” grid.
It’s a good idea to leave the Sawmill (and other resource-refining buildings) running while you do other things, as each recipe takes some time to complete. Then, return to the “Output” grid and pick up everything in it.
How to upgrade the Sawmill
You need to see at the top of the Sawmill interaction window and you will find three panels that say:
- Castle Heart Powered
- In Confined Castle Room
- Has Matching Floor
You can upgrade buildings like the Sawmill in V Rising that gather and refine resources by meeting certain requirements. Whether or not a Castle Heart is being used to power the Sawmill is shown in the first panel. Enclosing the Sawmill in a room made of stone castle walls and floors will increase its refinement rate by 25 percent. When you use Workshop flooring for the Sawmill, you’ll save a quarter of a million dollars by reducing the cost per recipe in the building by 25 percent, making it much more efficient.
