How to Tame Frogs in Minecraft

With the release of the Wild Update, frogs have been added to the world of Minecraft. The Minecraft Wild Update features frogs, which despite their size, steal the show. Patch 1.19 introduced the ability to breed and semi-tame frogs, which players can then keep as pets. If you want your very own hopping little pets in Minecraft, this guide will tell you where to find them and how to breed them.

How to Tame Frogs in Minecraft

Unfortunately, just like turtles, you cannot tame frogs in the same way that dogs or horses can. It is possible to breed them through enticement and selective breeding, but they cannot be domesticated at this time.

So, if you want to keep a frog as a pet, you should either confine it or tie it to a post, because frogs are prone to wandering off.

Furthermore, you can find frogs in any biome in your Minecraft seed. However, the type of frog you will find will depend on the climate either hot or cold, or even warm.

Here are the types of frogs you will find according to the climate:

  1. Hot climate: Orange frog
  2. Cold climate: Green frog
  3. Warm climate: White frog

How to Lure Frogs

In Minecraft, slimeballs are the bait of choice for luring frogs. Small slimes, typically found hopping around in swamp biomes or, less frequently, deep in caves, can be killed for these.

It’s the same principle as luring other animals; once you’re close enough to the mob you want, they’ll start following you around if you have the luring item equipped.

The use of leads, however, is the more effective strategy. As can be seen in the gallery below, a lead is made from four pieces of string and a slimeball. To catch frogs, you’d have to use the slimeball anyway, and leads can be reused.

How to Breed Frogs in Minecraft

In Minecraft, breeding frogs is the same as breeding any other passive mob. When you have two frogs in close proximity to each other, you can put them in love mode by equipping slimeballs and interacting with them.

One of the frogs will become pregnant after this and, like turtles, will start looking for a suitable place to lay her eggs as soon as possible.

If you keep your frogs in a pond or other enclosed space, the pregnant females will need access to water in order to lay their eggs. Two to six tadpoles will emerge from the eggs and begin swimming about in the water after about ten minutes.

Tadpoles can be raised more quickly to frog maturity if they are fed slimeballs. Tadpoles need to stay in the water because they will die if they are brought onto dry land. If you need to move a tadpole, you can do so by placing a bucket in the water and scooping up the tadpole.

The biome the tadpole develops in, rather than the frogs’ genetic makeup, determines the species it will become as an adult. If you want to breed frogs for a specific color, you should do so in environments that produce that hue.

Well, that’s all we have here about how players can tame frogs in Minecraft. We hope this guide helped you. If you liked this, make sure to check out how to Update Minecraft Realms to 1.19?
