Half the fun of The Quarry is in deciding whether or not to save the protagonists. It turns out that, in addition to the nine camp counselors, six members of the Hackett family and one other character (whom we don’t meet until much later in the game) can make it through the night. Therefore, the answer to the question of whether or not you can save Chris Hackett is in this guide. Let’s get started.
Can You Save Chris in The Quarry?
According to the gameplay, it depends. You have to know that Chris Hackett is going to die, and you have to kill him in the game. There are other characters you’ll have to sacrifice if you want to save Chris.
You should remember that Chris is one of the playable characters who must die in The Quarry unless you’re willing to let Constance and Jedidiah go first.
Keep in mind that Chris will get sick regardless of what you do, and that if you choose to save him, the rest of the family will be exposed and at least one of them will die a horrible death.
How to Save Chris in The Quarry?
To avoid Chris from pushing daisies, we won’t go into too much detail here to avoid spoilers, but rest assured we won’t be hiding any major plot points. But, do so at your own peril. This is the plan to rescue him.
It is not until late in Chapter 9: The Matriarch that you are presented with the choice that will determine whether or not Chris Hackett survives. Here in the Hackett household, you’ll take on the roles of Laura and Ryan.
You’ll eventually make your way up into the attic and uncover something interesting. When a character falls through the floor, chaos ensues and a small group of them end up in the same place. Keep in mind that the real spoilers are found in the following paragraph.
Here, as Ryan, you get your shot at the monster Chris. Dewey, er, Mr. Hackett, can be saved if you choose not to shoot. However, if you’re determined to get the worst possible ending, killing all the counselors is the way to go. But remember that some deaths lock certain paths, so even if you go this way, you won’t get all of the clues or tarot cards.
Keeping the Hacketts alive and/or saving Chris does not earn you any sort of reward, but it does lead to a slightly different ending in which some characters are still infected. You can’t make this choice in Chapter 9 if you want to save all of the counselors.
