Rogue Legacy 2 Class Tier List

The premise of Rogue Legacy 2 is that each character is a descendant of the player’s previous character. While this adds a quirky narrative to the game, it also means that the traits, spells, and other attributes of each character are randomized. Players collect gold during each run, which can be used to unlock a variety of permanent upgrades such as health boosts, damage boosts, and the like; in turn, these upgrades can be used to unlock new character classes. Players in Rogue Legacy 2 have limited control over their character’s class and abilities.

Because each character is generated at random, players must weigh the character’s class against other randomized features to determine their viability. For example, a Bard, who is generally regarded as one of the weaker classes, could emerge victorious in Rogue Legacy 2 if equipped with one of the best traits. In general, classes are the most important aspect of Rogue Legacy 2, and they will often take precedence over other traits and abilities when determining a character’s viability.

S-Tier

In Rogue Legacy 2, there are only a few classes that can truly be classified as S-tier. To check all of the boxes, a class should have a large health pool (or the ability to quickly recover health), as well as the ability to deal solid damage.

When choosing a randomized character, think about what the goal of a particular run will be. A player’s choice may differ depending on whether the run is focused on getting as far as possible and defeating bosses or gathering gold. However, because of their inherent survivability, the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2 will excel at either purpose.

  • Boxer
  • Valkyrie
  • Chef

A-Tier

While the A-tier includes some excellent options, they tend to shine in the early stages of the game. After enough upgrades have been purchased in Rogue Legacy 2, the S-tier options tend to outperform the A-tier due to their exceptional performance in a single category such as damage or survivability.

For example, due to its large health pool, the Barbarian – an A-tier class – is one of the best choices early on. As players progress deeper into runs, however, a similar class like the Valkyrie just edges out the Barbarian due to its ability to defend against projectiles. Similarly, while the Ronin is an excellent damage dealer, it’s difficult to beat a Boxer in terms of raw output.

B-Tier

The B-tier includes either mediocre but serviceable classes, or, in the case of the Mage, something that could be S-tier or C-tier depending on the build. A Mage class with the best relics and the right spells in Rogue Legacy 2 can be absolutely unrivaled. The Mage can be far too vulnerable to be effective if they have the wrong set.

In general, the B-tier will get the job done, but never as well as the A- or S-tier options. As a result, unless they specialize in one of the B-tier classes or come across an enticing set of starting features, players should lean toward the higher tiers.

  • Gunslinger
  • Mage
  • Pirate
  • Ranger

C-Tier

While beginners should avoid the C-tier in Rogue Legacy 2, all of the classes are viable in certain situations. However, just because a class is viable does not mean it is the best option. The C-tier should only be attempted by experienced players or those seeking a more difficult challenge.

All classes, especially those in the B-tier and higher, are relatively well-balanced in light of Rogue Legacy 2’s recent 1.0 release. Just because a class is considered C-tier doesn’t mean it can’t be played. Given the right circumstances, any of these classes could still outperform the upper tiers.
