Farming Simulator 22: How to Mow Grass, Bale it, and Make Hay and Silage

In Farming Simulator 22, grass is one of the most adaptable crops. It grows in the space between fields and can be found almost anywhere, so mowing grass and making bales can be a great way for players to pass the time while waiting for their crops to grow. It can also be used to make Hay or Silage, both of which are beneficial to livestock farmers.

In Farming Simulator 22, players can mow grass by purchasing or leasing a mowing attachment for a tractor or by purchasing a dedicated mower.

Each mower has a unique mowing pattern, with the more expensive models allowing players to mow a larger area.

Mowed grass is ejected in large heaps from a mower. These piles can then be picked up with a forage harvester or a loading wagon equipped with the appropriate header. A silo can then be used to store loose grass.

Alternatively, players can sort the grass into easy-to-pick-up rows with a Windrower. The grass can then be collected and turned into bales using a baler. If a player intends to make hay, they should not bale the grass right away.

Also, keep in mind that each baler produces a unique size and shape bale. Which Bale Collectors or Bale Wrappers can be used with a bale depends on its size and shape.

Obviously, in multiplayer, this process moves much faster. On solo farms, the time and effort may not be worth it.

  • Use a Tedder on the loose grass to turn it into hay.
  • Use a Windrower on the hay in order to make it easier for pick up.
  • Pick up the Hay using a Baler

To make Silage, players can also do:

  • Take loose grass and put it into a silage silo, and then compact it using a leveler.
  • Use a Bale Wrapper on bales of loose grass.

Silage can be used as cattle feed, sold at a biogas plant, or used to make Total Mixed Ration, the best cattle feed available.
