Live a Live: Which Character and Time Period Should You Choose First?

There are many potential main characters in Live A Live, so how do you decide which one to play as first? This HD-2D remake of a classic Japanese RPG has never been released outside of Japan before, and it lets you travel through eight different eras, each with its own protagonist and storyline. They span all of time, from antiquity to the distant future. The ability to pick anyone at the outset of the game causes some players to worry that they will make the wrong choice.

Because each character and time period is so drastically distinct from the others, and because some parts of the game feature unique types of gameplay, your first choice can propel you into a very different part of the game compared to someone else’s playthrough. So, with that in mind, let me tell you which of Live A Live’s characters you should pick first.

Before the full release on July 22, you can check out the first parts of three characters’ stories in the Live A Live demo, which is now available on the Nintendo eShop. At launch, players will be able to choose from any of the game’s eight protagonists, but for the time being, only three are available.

  • Twilight of Edo Japan: Oboromaru
  • Imperial China: The Earthen Heart Shifu
  • The Distant Future: Cube

Choosing a character from a time period you find most interesting is the best way to get started in Live A Live, as the chapters can be played in any order without negatively impacting the experience. Start with Cube in The Distant Future if you’re really into science fiction. Try an earlier era if you’re not into that sort of thing.

Those who prefer to stick to tradition may want to start with Imperial China, then move on to the waning days of Edo Japan, and finally, the far-off future. However, if you want to play the game in chronological order, you won’t be able to do so until the full game is released, as the demo only includes the first three chapters.

Well, that’s all we have here about which character should you choose first in Live a Live. We hope this guide helped you. If you liked this, make sure to check out which House Should You Choose in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes?
